Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She participated as a member of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently with the president Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
